<image:caption>Trauma-Informed Acupuncture My whole-person approach to treatment is based on the individual needs of my patients and recognizes that how we approach treatment is as important as what we do within the treatment. That means that your embodied sense of safety, agency and self-knowledge are deeply respected and that we work at the pace of your body. I primarily practice a Japanese lineage of acupuncture based on the teachings of Kiiko Matsumoto and her teachers Master Nagano and Dr Manaka. This system utilizes the palpation of reflexes on various parts of the body for ongoing feedback on the effectiveness of treatment, which makes it an excellent method for treating complex conditions like those resulting from trauma. My needling is gentle, with thinner needles and lighter insertions.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Somatic Experiencing</image:title>
<image:caption>Somatic Experiencing® is a body-based method of supporting the autonomic nervous system in order to resolve the effects of trauma through the body. It can address the impacts of overwhelming life experiences, chronic stress or a difficult early life by attending to unintegrated survival states in supportive, titrated ways. Together we track things like body sensations, images and movement impulses to support the recovery of agency and success in the face of life’s challenges. This somatic renegotiation can help in the restoration of healthy physiological functioning, which can result in feeling more safe, connected and resourced in your body and in your life.</image:caption>

      <image:title>About - Intention.</image:title>
<image:caption>My practice is focused on holistically tending to the impacts of trauma on the body. I work to support physiological regulation and a felt sense of safety while repairing the ways chronic toxic stress, untreated shock and an unsupported early life can disrupt healthy physical functioning. I do this through two separate modalities I practice: trauma-informed acupuncture and somatic experiencing. These lineages of body-based healing cross-pollinate in my training and approach as a practitioner but are practiced separately and independently. I have found that I have the most success working with people who want to take an active role in their own healing, value an embodied, holistic approach, and are committed to growth and self-inquiry as part of the process. This work is the most helpful when also accompanied by a strong care team that includes mental health providers and physicians. For me, healing doesn’t just mean alleviating symptoms. By definition, healing is about integration and connectedness.</image:caption>

      <image:title>About - Orientation.</image:title>
<image:caption>I orient towards a healing justice praxis in my work and in my life. An essential part of mending our individual and collective traumas is unlearning, untangling and repairing the harms of power-over ways of being. This means challenging white supremacy, colonization, patriarchy, ableism, class hierarchies and the culture of endless consumption, along with the abuse and violence that they all bring. We are all part of much greater, stronger constellations of connection and care than those systems of domination. The teachers, healers and mentors who have guided and shaped me over the last 25+ years have generously taught me that. They are the activists, healers, storytellers, writers and critical thinkers, earth-tenders and everyday people I have been fortunate enough to know, learn from and work with in my own healing and through my practice. My bloodlines, about half from Ireland but also from Scotland, Norway, England, Whales and Germany are a complex tapestry of harm, love and grief and have also taught me much, albeit often in painful ways, about healing. I began supporting those impacted by trauma in 2004 when I started working as an advocate for women and children survivors of violence . The focus of my works has been with trauma survivors ever since. I have been in private practice since 2013, and Tia, the super healer rescue heeler has been working alongside me since 2020. I am a white, able-bodied, neurodiverse, middle class queer cis woman. I use she/her pronouns. I am always working towards being a more integrated human being in relationship with people, land and our kin in the more than human world. I have lived in Portland, OR, on the unceded homelands of the Indigenous People of the Wallamt region since 2009. My practice and I are regular contributors to the Confederated Lower Chinook Tribes and Bands and the Native American Youth and Family Center (NAYA) in an effort towards reparations and recognition of my place as a guest here.</image:caption>

<image:title>Somatic Experiencing - My approach to Somatic Experiencing.</image:title>
<image:caption>As a somatic practitioner, my approach centers that our bodies are wise, complex, adaptive living systems that will choose survival above all else. That means that when we’re working with states of distress during a somatic integration process, we need to move at the pace the body, utilizing interoceptive and neuroceptive capacities to build reliable connections to our inner and outer resources. To do this, we engage movement and gesture, touch, imagery, sensation, emotion and insight. Over time, this gives the body the ability to integrate the powerful life force energies held in survival states, and teaches our autonomic nervous system flexibility and flow, increasing an embodied experience of agency, capacity and ease. I have been a yoga and movement practitioner for 25+ years, and a teacher of yoga and somatic practices since 2008. My training in Somatic Experiencing includes receiving my Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) certificate from the Somatic Experiencing Training Institute, founded by Dr. Peter Levine. Additionally, I have studied Somatic Resilience and Regulation with Kathy Kain PhD and Steve Terrell PsyD and Touch Skills for Complex Trauma with Kathy Kain PhD as well as NeuroAffective Touch with Aline LaPierre PsyD. I currently serve as an assistant at Somatic Experiencing Trainings and can provide credit sessions for SE students at the Beginning and Intermediate levels.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Trauma-Informed Acupuncture</image:title>
<image:caption>My approach to trauma-informed acupuncture. Your body is a wonder. It has adapted, managed, healed and generally held you together through all of your life experiences. For this reason, I approach acupuncture treatment with humility and generally see ailments and their symptoms as critical information to be respected and understood at their root. I believe you are the expert on your experience so we work collaboratively using the wise and well-tested tools of East Asian medicine to identify and treat patterns of imbalance at the deepest level. I practice a Japanese style of acupuncture taught by Kiiko Matsumoto, which includes the palpation of various body regions, including the abdomen, limbs, neck and back as the primary method of diagnosis. Treatment is gentle with thinner needles and lighter insertions. I also incorporate moxabustion, cupping, Acutonics tuning forks and Chinese herbal medicine into my treatments. I am a consent-based, body-positive practitioner and believe that each individual knows what their body needs best.</image:caption>
